The Central Square Theater is the home to two non-profit professional theater companies, The Underground Railway Theater (URT) and The Nora Theatre Company (The Nora). Both companies use the magnificent new facilities of The Central Square Theater to perform for Cambridge and the local Boston community.
About the Central Square Theater
The Central Square Theater was a saving grace for both URT and The Nora. As long-running established theater companies, URT founded in 1978 and The Nora 1987, neither company had a permanent residence theater. They traveled between theaters and constantly changed their location.
Then, in 2008, the partnership of The URT and The Nora both found their first permanent residence with The Central Square Theater.
This theater hosts a number of fantastic shows through its theater companies.
Both The Nora and URT have received numerous awards and recognition for their fantastic plays, providing an exciting and entertaining evening every time you go to the Central Theater.
About the Underground Railway Theater
In addition to performing plays for the public’s enjoyment, Underground Railway Theater (URT) offers a variety of community and educational programs.
They offer classes and intensive programs for children ages 6 through 16.
URT also offers a more rigorous program for a youth company, the Youth Underground, for ages 13-18. This allows the opportunity for young people serious about the theater to create and perform together.
The Boston Foundation
The Boston Foundation, a community foundation giving grants to non-profit organizations, has repeatedly recognized the talent and influence of the Central Square Theater in the greater Boston arts community.
The Boston Foundation has cited The Central Square Theater in many of their reports, calling the theater a “model partnership” and “best practice.”
Central Square Theater Tickets
Ticket prices vary depending on each performance, but often range between $20-40.
