The Home for Original College Plays
The Mumford Theatre is part of what is now called Anglia Ruskin University, and it is located in Cambridge off of East Road. If you are in the mood for a performance by a professional touring company, or if you would rather watch a play by locals or students, then the Mumford Theatre is the theatre in Cambridge you will not want to miss.
The theatre performs works by Shakespeare and other famous playwrights, but its specialty lies in original plays like John Newton – Amazing Grace, The Trials of Oscar Wilde and One Man Star Wars. It also offers music events and free lunchtime concerts ranging from solo pianists to award winning acoustic guitarists to husband and wife folk duos.
The Mumford Theatre can hold more than 250 people per show, and claims that no seat has a bad view. It also has a bar that offers beer, wine, soda, candy, and (of course) ice cream during the interval. There are various restaurants within walking distance whether you are in the mood for a Chinese noodle bar, a North African restaurant, or a classic Cambridge pub. The Mumford offers a neighborhood discount for its shows, as well as a discount for Anglia Ruskin students.
Performances start and end with the school year. Upcoming productions include Bouncers, Twelve Ten Fifteen, and Call Mr. Robeson. For more family-friendly shows, check out The Princess and the Pea, Rapunzel, and Hugless Douglass. Tickets and show times may vary, see the Mumford Theatre’s website for details.
