Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, entered into the British royal House of Windsor after marrying Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, on 29 April 2011. The wedding, attended by roughly 1,900 guests, took place at Westminster Abbey in a fashion befitting the elegance and noted class of the royal family.
Catherine ‘Kate’ Elizabeth Middleton was born on 9 January 1982 in Reading, Berkshire. Her parents Michael and Carole Middleton worked in the airline industry. She also has two younger siblings: Philippa ‘Pippa’ and James Middleton.
Meeting Prince William
Kate attended the University of St. Andrews in Scotland to study art history, where she met Prince William. Well-known for her fashion style, detailed in the book Kate’s Style: Smart, Chic Fashion from a Royal Role Model, she worked for a short period with the clothing company Jigsaw, but moved to photography before her engagement to William. Her wedding dress kept with her fashion sense as London designers Sarah Burton and Alexander McQueen hand-crafted a gown of silk overlaid with lace.
After dating since 2002, Prince William proposed to Kate in 2010 on a trip to Kenya. She inherited the Duchess of Cambridge title after their wedding, and now represents her title and position by supporting charities including The East Anglia’s Children’s Hospice and Action on Addiction. Outside of her work, she participates in sailing, tennis, photography, and painting.
Royal Baby George
On 3 December 2012, the royal family announced the expected birth of Kate and William’s child. Kate experienced a rare case of hyperemesis gravidarum during the early stages of her pregnancy and had to stay in King Edward VII Hospital in Central London to recover from the nausea and dehydration.
On 22 July 2013, at 4:24 p.m., the Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to a son, George Alexander Louis, at St. Mary’s Hospital in the Paddington district of London. His Royal Highness George the Prince of Cambridge, weighed in at 3.8 kg (8 pounds, 6 ounces). He stands third in line to succeed the throne, behind his grandfather Prince Charles of Wales, and his father William, the Duke of Cambridge.
Catherine, as the Duchess of Cambridge, now resides at Kensington Palace in London, United Kingdom.
