After seeing a number of speech therapists with no improvement, the King’s wife, Elizabeth the future Queen Mother (Helena Bonham Carter), arranges for King George VI to see an eccentric speech therapist named Lionel Logue (Geoffrey Rush). After a rough start, together the two delve into treatment and eventually form an unbreakable bond. The King eventually overcomes his stammer, and gives a radio broadcast that unties his people in battle. Based on the true story, come and watch as King George VI finds his voice.
The Queen revolves mostly around the death of Princess Diana in 1997 and how Queen Elizabeth II reacts to this tragedy. There was a lot of conflict among the Royal Family about how to deal with Diana’s death. Many members believed that because Prince Charles and Princess Diana were already divorced, the death shouldn’t be treated as an official Royal death. But because of Diana’s reputation as “the people’s princess”, the public wanted the Royal Family to issue a statement and to publicly acknowledge the grief and loss everyone was feeling at the time. Helen Mirren gives a wonderful performance was Queen Elizabeth II and even won the Academy Award as Best Actress for it! Third in the line of movies about the Royals is Diana which of course is about the Princess Diana. The film focuses on the last two years of her life. Naomi Watts takes on the leading role of the iconic princess. The film begins when Diana divorces Charles, Prince of Wales. Princess Diana falls in love with Pakistani Heart Surgeon, Dr. Hasnat Khan (Naveen Andrews). The film depicts her historic tours of Angola, in her campaign against the use of land mines. Trips to causes in Australia, Pakistan, New York, Bosnia, Italy and ultimately Paris, France are also shown, with recreations of the fashions she wore in real life. Her desire for a life with Khan ends due to his wish for a private life and objections to her celebrity. The film depicts her dating of Egyptian Dodi Fayed as an attempt to make Khan jealous, but it ends with the car crash that killed Diana, Fayed and Fayed’s driver at Pont Alma Tunnel, in Paris, France.
William and Kate
One of the newer movies about the Royals is the lifetime original that tells the story of how Prince William and Kate Middleton’s friendship blossomed into a romantic love affair. The film starts from the moment Prince William and the future Princess Kate met at Scotland’s prestigious University of St. Andrews and continues through the ups and downs of their nine-year courtship. Of course there are complications put on by social and Royal Family pressures, and intense global media attention surrounding their storybook wedding.
