Cambridge is one of the UK’s most famous cities, but it’s not just the university that makes it famous. With four multi-million pound shopping centres and hundreds of smaller stores, stands and boutiques throughout the city, Cambridge offers some of the greatest shopping experiences outside of London.
Cambridge’s crown jewel of shopping is the Grand Arcade, located right in the heart of the city. With three levels filled with over sixty premium stores like Apple, Pandora and the titanic John Lewis, this monster of a mall is a must for any shopper. The Lion’s Yard hugs the Grand Arcade and offers even more big brand shops for the city centre, including Lush, Superdry, and Hotel Chocolat.
Rivaling the Grand Arcade is the famous Grafton Shopping Centre. This massive indoor shopping area holds over sixty stores and restaurants to explore, all of which are just a quick walk down Midsummer Common or Parker’s Pieces. Highlights include BHS, Debenhams, and a nine screen Vue Cinema.
[[Editor’s Note: As a New Englander, I feel obligated to share that the Grafton also has a Dunkin’ Donuts: one of just a handful currently established in the country!]]
For something a little closer to the rail station, check out the many eateries at Cambridge Leisure. A relatively new addition to Cambridge’s already impressive shopping sites, Cambridge Leisure specializes in food more than clothes or souvenirs, offering everything from Pizza Hut to Lucky Star. The centre also has a Cineworld, Pure Gym, Sainsbury’s, Tesco Express and a Travelodge.
Looking something with a more personal touch? Try a stand in the market square! The general market has been a shopping hub since the middle ages, and still sells produce and crafts like it did back then. Of course, vendors also sell more modern products like CDs, jewelry, antiques and a bike repair shop.
There are plenty of other places to go shopping in Cambridge, and we will be sure to update this list very soon. If you’d like to recommend a page, send us the details at DougT@Cambridge.com. Till then, enjoy the hundreds of shops and restaurants in these five amazing centres.
