Take to the Skies!
Ever want to see World War era planes in action? Ride in one yourself! With over forty flights ranging from the Nieuport 17 to the Westland Sea King, the Duxford Air Show is bound to excite every family member. On 13 and 14 September, the Imperial War Museum in Duxford will put on an air show you won’t soon forget.
The Tornado G4, Hawker Siddeley Gnats, and the powerful Avro Vulcan take flight on Saturday afternoon. On Sunday, stick around for the Avro Lancaster and the legendary Red Arrows. Both days will also feature the Great War Display Team piloting Junkers, Triplanes, and RAF BE2s and SE5s.
Flights don’t begin until 14:00, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the museum in the morning! In the American Air Museum, Colonel Rich Graham will entertain visitors with stories of the SR-71 Blackbird. The living history group Ops 1939-1945 will send you back in time with their RAF dispersal huts and Bomber Command briefings. There’s also plenty of trade stands for souvenirs and, of course, the regular exhibitions will be open to enjoy.
The Duxford Air Show also features some more grounded vehicles. The Hangar Base will be filled with contemporary cars and a chance to test your skill in the Racing Aces simulators.
If you want to fly for yourself, reserve a ticket for one of the many pleasure flights throughout the weekend. Take to the skies in planes like the Tiger Moth, T-6 Harvard and the Dragon Rapide, or enjoy a training session in the Cessna 152. With the exception of the Dragon Rapide, all flights must be booked in advance, so get your tickets soon!
