Looking for an Oktoberfest experience, but don’t want to travel to Germany? Well, you’re in luck. Consider attending the annual Cambridge Octoberfest!

About Cambridge Octoberfest

First held in 2007, the Cambridge Octoberfest is an annual event typically held in early to mid October. The festival seeks to emulate the world famous Munich Oktoberfest, but on a smaller scale.

[EDITOR’S NOTE: For an in-depth guide to the Munich Oktoberfest, click here.]

Cambridge Octoberfest is sponsored by the Campaign for Real Ales. Otherwise known as CAMRA, this organisation supports community pubs, consumer rights, and real, locally brewed ales.

CAMRA also sponsors the Cambridge Beer Festival and the Cambridge Winter Ale Festival, bringing beer to the masses while supporting local brewers and pubs.

Cambridge Octoberfest Location

Since the inaugural festival, the Cambridge Octoberfest has been hosted by the University Social Club in Mill Lane, Cambridge. The Club also plays host to the annual Cambridge Winter Ale Festival.

The Club’s central location allows easy access via public transport, car, or bicycle.

Even better, there are a number of local pubs nearby for guests to visit should they want a break from the festival proper.

Octoberfest Drinks

No Octoberfest is complete without beer, and the Cambridge Octoberfest prides itself on offering a great variety to its patrons.

While this festival might be inspired by the Munich Oktoberfest, it takes a preference towards locally brewed Cambridge beers. These selections tend to be traditional British styled beers, but include local brews in the German style.

And in keeping with the Munich Oktoberfest tradition, the festival also offers a selection of German brewed beers. In fact, they always try to offer the six Oktoberfest beers direct from Munich on draught for festival-goers to enjoy.

The Cambridge Octoberfest also offers a variety of ciders to its guests.

With so many options, you’re bound to find something you like to drink at this festival!

While this beer festival may be young in comparison to Cambridge’s others, it’s an enjoyable one every year.
