Cambridge SCA (or Cambridge Student Community Action) is a charitable organization that provides Cambridge University students with the opportunity to volunteer in the community. It became registered as a charity in 1972 and is one of the longest student-run charity organizations at the University.
Cambridge SCA runs 10 different internal projects and also gives participants the chance to work at external organizations like the Cambridge Carbon Footprint and the Cambridge Rape Crisis Center. Some of the projects within Cambridge SCA, like ‘Big Siblings’ and ‘Bounce,’ focus on providing learning opportunities to disadvantaged individuals in the community.
Other projects include ‘Saturday Club’ and ‘Sunday Club,’ which involve spending time with the elderly. The organization even provides tutoring resources through its ‘Homework Help’ program.
The Cambridge SCA is run by a student committee, college reps, a board of trustees and two staff members to handle the day-to-day running of the charity. Along with the plethora of the chances to volunteer, Cambridge SCA changes its committee members every March so there is also the chance to be involved with the organization on a more in-depth level.
