In the year 2014, the MIT Sloan School of Management celebrated its 100th year as a leader in innovation. Considering the Sloan School is one of the top management schools around the world, the new centennial title only encourages MIT’s original mission for its Sloan School students. That mission is to “develop principled, innovative leaders who improve the world and to generate ideas that advance management practice.”

When considering going to MIT’s School of Management, you must ask yourself one question: do you want to be a leader? The Sloan School is dedicated to giving students the tools to become innovative leaders who want to make a difference in this world.

The Sloan School will sharpen that deep and embedded instinct to lead by giving their students the proper equipment to actually become a leader. Whether you want to manage a complex organization or to open up a business, the Sloan School provides what you need to innovate and succeed. How that is provided is through three key factors: practical knowledge, an engaged community and action learning.

Mastering Management

At MIT Sloan, the school follows a motto of mens et manus, or mind and hand in order to seek practical solutions to real life problems. Because MIT offers the minds to some of the world’s leading management thinkers, practical knowledge is gained by learning new tactics, models, and strategies that can be applied to the biggest challenges you will face in your chosen field of management.

Of course, going to MIT it is only assumed a person will learn in a classroom; but what the Sloan School also provides is the beginnings of working with management in the real world. Because the Sloan School specializes in management, the students become a part of many on campus activities by organizing conferences and events through more than 60 clubs.

Sloan School of Management: Action Learning

Not only does MIT provide the beginnings of hands on experience, but the school gives out the opportunity to work with corporate or non-profit partners of the school to get that real life involvement. By doing this, the students get to apply what has been learned in the classroom to life situations. The students are “often traveling to developing countries to work with peers and local entrepreneurs to improve critical systems and services”.

Through the Sloan School of Management at MIT, the students truly become innovated leaders ready to take on any challenges the world of business has to throw at them. The world of business is a competitive and fierce one, but at least the Sloan School give students the tools to fight back.
