Academic Earth

Academic Earth was launched in 2009 on the premise that everyone deserves access to a world-class education.

They built the first collection of free online college courses from the world’s top universities. Since, the world of massively open online education has grown, so today their curated lists of online courses are hand selected to show you the very best offerings by subject area.

There is something for everyone: whether you want to explore a new topic or advance in your current field, they bring education directly to you for free.

Academic Earth Offerings

Academic Earth links users to courses through MIT OpenCourseware, MIT’s online education program as well as other universities like Harvard, Yale, Princeton and more. They have over 700 courses available.

Academic Earth offers courses in the following subjects: art and design, business, engineering, humanities, medicine and healthcare, science, math, social science and test preparation.

Beyond curating links to courses, they also provide resources to supplement your education, like links to various publications in the subject you are studying.

As if free courses wasn’t enough, they also compile a list of grants and scholarships available for students of varying demographics, like age, university, etc. For those looking to get more experience in the field, they have a list of available internships per field, as well as various professional and student organizations to be a part of.

Looking for an educational video to watch without committing to a course? They have created several playlists from their most interesting and popular courses for you to watch. An example is “First Day of Freshman Year,” which includes lectures from introductory courses at top universities.

They also have created original elective videos on various topics like “How to Take a Punch,” or the physics behind punching.
