Charter schools are public schools that are designed to prepare students for college. Charter school selection works on a lottery basis and there is no entrance exam, lengthy application, or interview required.
The only preference is given to students who live in the community that the school is located in and those with siblings already enrolled in the school. However, anyone in the state can apply for the lottery.
The schoolwork in the charter schools is more rigorous than a typical public school, and often the school days extend later.
