About Clover Food Lab
Clover Food Lab is a local Cambridge chain that’s getting a lot of action. And we mean a lot.
This vegetarian fast food eatery has been climbing the charts since it opened in 2008, thanks to the efforts of MIT graduate, CEO and Founder Ayr Muir.
Muir, who is passionate about good-tasting food and the environment, wanted to create a restaurant that would get people eating right.
Although Clover is a vegetarian restaurant, most of their customers are meat-eaters; it’s vegetarian food for non-vegetarians.
Clover’s food is fresh, flavorful, and changes according to what is in season. The company began in a humble place: as a food truck, then a series of food trucks.
While Clover still loves its food truck roots (visit the first food truck at MIT), it has also grown to include multiple brick-and-mortar locations, in Harvard Square, Inman Square, Kendall, Boston, and reaching out even to suburbia in Burlington, MA.
Clover Food Lab Menu
Clover Food Lab’s menu changes. But that’s okay – change is good. The changes reflect what crops are currently in season. For the most part, however, Clover has these sandwiches:
- Chickpea fritter – Fluffier than your average falafel sandwich, this has delicious and light fried chickpea balls paired with zesty hummus, cucumber-tomato Israel salad, pickled vegetables, and a drizzle of tahini on top. It’s Clover Food Lab’s most popular sandwich.
- BLT – Bacon, lettuce, tomato, with no bacon. Yup, that’s right! Instead of bacon, Clover uses tempeh, a soy product that is smoky. It won’t fool you, you won’t think it’s bacon, but it’s good, and a Cambridge.com personal favorite.
- Egg & Egg – Clover likes funny names. The egg & egg sandwich combines eggplant and a hard-boiled egg with Israeli salad and pickled veggies for that added crunch.
Our former Editor, Erinn, was a Communications Intern at Clover before getting her job here. Erinn says, “I love the food. I love the company’s philosophy. I love how they treat customers. When you’re at Clover, you know you’re going to have a great meal.”
