Druid The Druid: Hipster and Irish

Located in Inman square, the Druid is a hipster bar that nonetheless retains an air of Irish authenticity. This contradiction is mirrored by their fish and chips.

This Irish classic is expensive and ridiculously presented – it comes wrapped in newspaper that, when unfolded, takes up the majority of the table – but it’s delicious and (having been to Dublin, I can say this with authority) “authentic.”

In reality, I don’t think I’d be able to tell Irish fish and chips from their American counterpart, but the first adjective holds true. So, so good. The cod is fresh and lightly battered with exactly the right amount of grease (not dry but not dripping with it) and served over a bed of fries. This is standard, but the fries are crispy and delicious.

Impressive Atmosphere

Giant paper-mache animals and shapes float throughout the restaurant, surrounded by fairy lights. That description doesn’t really do the decor justice but the paper lights offset the bars dark pub feel and turn it into something cooler, hipper.

The wait staff is primarily Irish, and according to my friend (who has also been to Ireland, and likes to remind everyone of this every chance he gets) they really know how to pour a Guinness.

There are 12 beers on tap; imports like Stella and Guinness as well as a selection of beer from local beers like Harpoon IPA, Cisco Whale’s Tales and Berkshire Brewing Steel Rail Extra Pale Ale. If you are looking for an Irish experience in Cambridge, the Druid is your answer.
