Finding a job isn’t easy, trust me. The ratio to people seeking a position to the amount of positions available is a bit scary, but if you equip yourself with the right tools finding a job will be that much easier.

First things first, you need to have a stellar resume. Not sure how to write one or want to polish yours up before submitting it? Check out our tips here.

A typical resume includes four sections: contact information, experience, education, and skills. You can add more later, but this is the best outline for beginners. Keep it to one page and one page only!

Most potential jobs also require a cover letter. A cover letter is a one page document that is an extension of your resume. Think of the resume as the outline and the cover letter as the essay.

The cover letter is your chance to go into more depth about your qualifications and why you are the best potential employee ever. Again, it is a one page document. Always remember KISS: Keep It Simple, Stupid. Don’t elaborate on every single job you have, pick out your most relevant experience and elaborate. Sell yourself to the employer!

After Applying

After you apply for a job through our job search tool , it’s important to follow-up with any businesses you are genuinely interested in. Send a quick e-mail thanking the employer for their time, and attach a copy of your resume for good measure.

If you are contacted for an interview, congratulations! Now you have some preparing to do.

Start by thoroughly researching the company. You don’t want to go into an interview not knowing anything about the company, that makes you look completely uninterested. Would you hire someone like that?

Arrive at your interview dressed to impress in business attire. They always say to dress for the job that you want, not the job that you have.

Also, prepare several questions to ask the employer. A few of my favorites: What is a typical day like at this company? What do you look for in an employee? What is your favorite aspect of working for this company? Being prepared is always important, but being able to think of questions and answers on the spot is also key.

The most important tip of all is, of course, to be yourself. Show your personality and stand out in the crowd.
