November is at a close, which means that the chaos of holiday shopping is in full swing. Why not try something new this year by supporting local small businesses?

If you’ve got that person on your list who already has everything, or if you’re just looking to give memorable gifts, here is a guide to shopping local on Cambridge’s very own Massachusetts Avenue. All of these shops are walking distance from the Porter and Harvard Square stops on the MBTA Red Line.

Holiday Shopping in Cambridge: Nomad

Scout Cambridge featured Nomad in its Local Gift Guide this year, and if you haven’t been there yet, it’s basically Anthropologie meets authentic, multicultural boutique. The store is filled to the brim with globally inspired knick-knacks, relics, art, clothing, jewelry, and toys.

Nomad sells books that would be a perfect addition to your eccentric aunt’s coffee table, as well as handmade items to impress your hipster sister. Not to mention, they’ve got a pretty gorgeous window display.

Nomad is located at 1741 Massachusetts Avenue, close to Porter Square.

Boston loves its Irish heritage, and who better to take a hint from when it comes to getting cozy this winter than our ancestors from across the Atlantic? Bundle up this holiday season with an authentic scarf, jacket, sweater, or blanket from Irish Imports Ltd.

That’s not all that Irish Imports Ltd. has to offer, so check out their huge selection of Irish crafts from reputable artisans like Kerry Woolen Mills, Studio Donegal, and Kennedys of Ardara.

Irish Imports Ltd. has been in Cambridge for over 40 years at 1737 Massachusetts Avenue. It is only a short walk from Porter Square.

Holiday Shopping in Cambridge: Evelyn & Angel’s

A little further down the road is a shop that’s sure to please even the biggest chocolate-snob on your list. Evelyn & Angel’s was voted Best of Boston 2013 for Best Chocolate by Boston Magazine, and I certainly can’t say that I disagree.

Assemble a gift box with Evelyn & Angel’s beautiful selection of candies and nuts, or pick up some stylishly delicious French macaroons, made at Northlight Bakery in Somerville. Or, sit down and take a break from the cold with an old friend over some decadent hot chocolate or a hand-crafted espresso drink.

Evelyn & Angel’s is located at 1702 Massachusetts Avenue, close to Porter Square.

Holiday Shopping in Cambridge: Raspberry Beret

It seems like consignment shops are always either cheap and nothing special, or far too pricey for second-hand clothing. Raspberry Beret is the perfect happy medium, with adorable finds at affordable prices.

You never know what you’ll find in Raspberry Beret’s selection of vintage and high-end women’s clothing. The staff are warm, friendly, and eager to help. They only sell pieces that are unique and in perfect condition— so if you think that thrifting “just isn’t your thing,” think again!

Raspberry Beret is located at 1704 Massachusetts Avenue, close to Porter Square.

Shopping local is good for the local economy and ensures that your gifts will be memorable, so spend a weekend browsing your local shops before the upcoming holidays to support small businesses.
