Now that the snow is finally gone, this beautiful Spring weather is perfect for a date night in Cambridge. Ditch the simple dinner-and-a-movie idea and plan a date for the daytime when you can enjoy the fabulous festivals, music, art, and events in Cambridge and Boston this weekend.
Are you and your beau creative? Active? Relaxed? Check out this list of perfectly paired restaurants and events in Cambridge this weekend and find one that fits your lifestyle.
For the Goofy Couple
Comedy, America! by ImprovBoston and a Late Night Snack at the Grafton Street Pub
ImprovBoston at 40 Prospect Street, Cambridge
Doors at 10 p.m.
I’m convinced that ImprovBoston never sleeps because of the sheer number of shows they host week in and week out (not that I’m complaining).
ImprovBoston’s Comedy, America! is an hour and a half of jokes about the great US of A—how appropriate for the approaching holiday as well as your date night.
If you aren’t quite done laughing after the ImprovBoston show, top off your night drinks at the Oberon. If your timing is right, the venue will have started their second performance of the Donkey Show.
Hungry instead? Check out the Grafton Street Pub. It’s open past 11 p.m., and has all of the delicious beer and appetizer pairings you can think of.
For the Laid Back Couple
The Lizard Lounge Poetry Jam and Late Dinner at The Abbey
This 21+ poetry jam at The Lizard Lounge began back in February, but that doesn’t mean it’s gone stale. Come enjoy some drinks and performances by featured poets.
The evening includes a reading from a featured poet (past acts include Michael “Warrior” Bonds) a poetry slam, and an open mic portion.
Poetry at the Lizard Lounge can get pretty intense. Check out this video of featured poet Big Brotha Sadi, who performed in Cambridge last year.
Be sure to get to the lounge at 7:30 sharp if you plan on reading—the venue takes the first eight poets for the poetry slam, and the first 20 poets for the open mic session.
The event is slated to end at 1:00 a.m., but you’re free to leave earlier to enjoy a drink or an appetizer at The Abbey in Harvard Square. The two-level restaurant has the perfect casual feel for you and your loved one to relax and enjoy a beer or two.
For the Family
Meteor Day Story Time and Lunch at Otto Pizza
Make your date night fun for the whole family! The Curious George Store in Cambridge is hosting a meteor-themed story time. At the end of the event, kids will learn how to make their own rocket that launches off of a straw.
Afterwards, pick and choose from the number of family restaurants that Cambridge and Harvard Square have to offer.
My personal favorite is Otto Pizza—they have traditional options like cheese and pepperoni for the kids, and adventurous selections like three-cheese tortellini pizza for the adults.
Because no couple is the same, all of our pairings an be mixed and matched to fit your unique relationship. You can also check out our events calendar for even more great events happening in and around Cambridge this weekend.
