A new restaurant is opening in the lively neighborhood of Central Square today, October 15, 2014. Viale will serve up Italian favorites with a Mediterranean twist.
Viale is replacing Rendezvous, which had its home in Central Square for nine years before being sold. Rendezvous chef and owner Steve Johnson decided to sell the restaurant to the team of Greg Reeves and Mark Young mid-April of this year.
Reeves and Young are no strangers to Cambridge, as they have been involved in several area restaurants during the years. Both are formerly of Green Street in Central and others in Cambridge. These long-time partners are excited to open and own their very own restaurant this time around.
Renovations have been happening all summer and the pair is finally ready to open the doors of Viale tonight.
What can we expect from Viale? Reeves told the Boston Globe that “We’ll do cured meats, oysters, and grilled pizza using fall flavors like sage, rosemary, and pumpkin.”
They will be utilizing the already existing wood-fired grill for a menu focused on local ingredients and housemade pastas. Beverages will focus on Old & New World wines, artisanal beer, and an in-depth cocktail menu.
The restaurant seats around 80 people, including the bar area.
For the time being, the kitchen is open from 5pm to 10pm Sunday through Wednesday, until 11pm Thursday through Saturday and a late-night menu is available for an extra hour at the bar. The restaurant will be closed on Tuesdays for the first month and Sunday brunch may launch early next year.
